How to Read Aloud Text Online

Use this tutorial to convert text to speech, upload text files, choose voices, follow word highlighting, and download generated audio.

Basic Usage

  1. Open the Read Aloud Text tool.
  2. Type, paste, or upload a plain TXT file into the text box.
  3. Select the language that matches your text.
  4. Choose a text to speech voice and preview voices if needed.
  5. Click Convert Text to Speech.
  6. Press play to listen and follow the read-along word highlighting.
  7. Download the generated audio file if you want to save it.

Text Input and TXT File Upload

You can paste short text, long notes, drafts, articles, study material, and scripts directly into the text box. If your content is already saved as a plain text file, use Upload TXT to load the file into the reader.

The character counter shows the current limit for each conversion. If your text is longer than the limit, split it into smaller sections before converting it to audio.

Choosing Languages and Voices

Read Aloud Text includes voices for English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese. Select the language that matches your text first, then choose one of the available voices.

Use the Preview button to hear a short sample before generating the full audio. This helps you pick a voice that fits studying, proofreading, narration, or accessibility use.

Read-Along Word Highlighting

After conversion, the read-along panel displays the text being narrated. When you play the audio, each word is highlighted as it is read aloud. This is useful for language learning, focused listening, and proofreading.

Auto-scroll is enabled by default so longer text stays visible as the audio progresses. You can turn auto-scroll off if you prefer to control the panel manually.

Playback Speed, Looping, and Downloads

Use playback speed controls to listen more slowly or faster after the audio is generated. Loop audio can repeat the same generated file for review or memorization.

When you are happy with the result, click Download Audio to save the generated speech file to your device.

Troubleshooting

The convert button is disabled

Make sure you have entered text, selected a language, selected a voice, and stayed within the character limit.

The voice preview does not play

Check your browser audio permissions and device volume. Refreshing the page can also help if the browser blocks autoplay or audio output.

The generated audio is not available

If the backend is temporarily unavailable or a rate limit is reached, wait a moment and try again with a shorter text sample.
